At She Lives on Air, your data is respected. We keep things simple, avoid selling data, and give you sensible choices.

1) Scope & Who We Are

This Policy applies to the Site and any email newsletters we send. It does not cover third-party websites or services linked from our content.

Controller. For privacy laws that use the term “controller” (e.g., the EU/UK GDPR), She Lives on Air is the controller for personal data collected through the Site.

No paid plans (for now). As of the Effective Date, the Site is free to use and we do not process payment information. If we introduce optional paid features later, we will update this Policy.

2) Information We Collect

A. Information you provide directly

  • Contact & inquiries. Name, email address, and message content you send via forms or email.
  • Newsletter sign-ups. Email address and preferences.
  • Comments & submissions. Display name, handle, and text/images you post or submit for possible publication (e.g., community stories).
  • Giveaways & polls. If we run them, we may collect your name, email, and responses.

B. Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data. IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages viewed, links clicked, referring URL, approximate location (derived from IP), and timestamps.
  • Cookies/Local Storage. Limited cookies or similar technologies for basic Site functions and, if enabled, privacy-respecting analytics.

C. Information from third parties

  • Newsletter platform / analytics. Aggregate reports about open rates, click-throughs, and Site traffic patterns.
  • Social media. Platforms may share analytics per their terms if you interact with our posts.

3) How We Use Information

  • Operate, maintain, and secure the Site and newsletter.
  • Respond to your messages and requests.
  • Moderate submissions and, where applicable, publish or feature them with the attribution you provide.
  • Understand Site performance and improve content.
  • Send optional newsletters and updates (unsubscribe anytime).
  • Enforce our terms, prevent fraud/abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

4) Legal Bases (GDPR/UK GDPR)

We process personal data based on consent, legitimate interests (e.g., security, basic analytics, content improvements), legal obligations, or contract (where applicable).

5) How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share with:

  • Service Providers. Hosting, email delivery, analytics, and moderation—bound by confidentiality and data-processing terms.
  • Legal & safety. To comply with law or protect rights and security.
  • Business changes. If we form a new entity, merge, or transfer assets related to the Site.

We use essential cookies for basic functions and may enable privacy-friendly analytics. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser (some features may be affected). We currently do not respond to DNT signals.

7) Retention

We keep personal information as long as necessary for the purposes in this Policy and legal compliance, then delete or de-identify it. Newsletter emails are retained until you unsubscribe or we close the list.

8) Your Privacy Rights

A. EU/UK residents

Subject to exceptions, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, object to processing, and withdraw consent (without affecting prior lawful processing). You may lodge a complaint with your local authority.

B. U.S. state laws (e.g., California)

Depending on your state, you may have rights to know/access, delete, correct, and opt out of certain data sharing/targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by California law. To make a rights request, email [email protected] with subject “Privacy Request” and your state.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

9) Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10) Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No system is 100% secure; please use the Site responsibly and contact us if you suspect an issue.

11) International Transfers

We may process data in the United States and other countries. By using the Site, you consent to these transfers in accordance with this Policy.

12) AI & Content Submissions

We may use AI-assisted tools to help draft, edit, illustrate, or moderate content under confidentiality and data-processing terms. We do not use your submissions to train public models. If you submit stories, images, or comments that include personal information, you consent to our using and editing them for publication as described on the submission page. Please avoid sharing sensitive personal information.

We send newsletters only if you opt in. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We may send necessary administrative or legal notices related to the Site.

Links may point to sites/services we do not control. Their privacy practices are their own.

15) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy. We will post the updated Policy with a new “Last Updated” date and, when material, provide additional notice. Your continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
